Educational Background:
I attended West Virginia University for both undergrad and graduate school. I graduated from WVU in May 2014 with my master's in elementary education and special education.

Certifications:
I am a certified licensed teacher in both Virginia and West Virginia in elementary education K-6 and special education general curriculum K-12. 

Experience:
I started my teaching career at EMHS in 2014, and I truly love the school and community! East Mont is truly such a special place!

Personal Information:
I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and am the oldest of three children.  I have a younger sister and brother.  I met my husband, Jeremiah, at college. After I graduated from WVU, I moved to Virginia and we got married July 2, 2016!  We had our son, Wells Morgan, November 14, 2021 and have been very busy with him! We now live in Roanoke along with our puppy, Sadie!

Hobbies and Interests:
I enjoy cooking, camping, decorating, traveling, watching WVU Mountaineers and Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, listening to music, shopping, watching reality TV, and spending time with my husband, son, family, and friends.

Bio:

My name is Mrs. Samantha Shelor, and I am excited to join Eastern Montgomery High School as a Special Education Teacher. I possess valuable experience within MCPS schools in the Eastern Montgomery area and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Liberty University, alongside a special education teaching credential. I am dedicated to fostering the growth and achievement of every student, with a steadfast belief that all learners can fulfill their potential when provided with effective support and encouragement. Beyond my professional commitments, I appreciate outdoor activities, attending sporting events for my four children, and spending quality time with my family.

Special Educator/Co-Teacher • Case Manager

I am proud to serve as a Special Educator, Co-Teacher, and Case Manager at Eastern Montgomery High School. I have been with Montgomery County Public Schools since 2008, beginning my teaching career at Blacksburg High School before joining the Eastern Montgomery High School faculty full-time in the fall of 2023.

I hold a Master of Education in Special Education from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Sociology from Bluefield University. I am licensed to teach Special Education (K–12 across the curriculum) and also hold endorsements in Technology Education and Drafting. I am also a proud graduate of Graham High School in Bluefield, Virginia.

Before becoming a teacher, I enjoyed two very different careers that continue to influence my work in education today. I began my professional career in ophthalmology, where I became a certified surgical assistant. Later, I spent more than 20 years in the drafting and graphics department of an environmental and engineering consulting firm, developing expertise in AutoCAD and graphic design software, hence my endorsements to teach drafting and technology education. Those experiences strengthened my technical, creative, and problem-solving skills while reinforcing the importance of patience, precision, and lifelong learning.

My philosophy is simple: every student can learn. Students learn in different ways and at different paces, and it is my responsibility to discover the strategies that help each student reach their greatest potential. I strive to create a classroom where students are appropriately challenged, yet experience success, build confidence, and develop the skills they need for life beyond high school.

Outside the classroom, my interests are easy to remember—they mostly begin with the letter C! I enjoy Clothes (fashion and shopping), Cars (from classic automobiles to today’s newest models), Cats (I have rescued more than I can count), and Concerts. While my musical roots are in classic rock, I’ve recently become a big fan of country music, with Chris Stapleton and Lainey Wilson among my favorites. I also love home decorating, landscaping, creative DIY projects, art in many forms, and spending evenings binge-watching dramas, mysteries, and true-crime series.

I live in Radford with my husband, Jim. Together we enjoy spending time with our growing family, including three adult children, their spouses, an energetic grandson born in 2025, and another grandson expected in early 2027.
